For Claire

We all have our little obsessions. For my friend Claire, the obsession comes in the form of an anchor. Claire loves anchors in all its forms, especially if that form is fashion. I don’t typically spot anchors among an array of apparel, but when I saw DKNY’s Pre-Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection I couldn’t miss Claire’s favorite. Anchors, though prevalent, were not all that DKNY showed for Pre-Fall 2010. The collection focused heavily on American classics like a tweed blazer, a khaki trench coat, and a comfy-looking cardigan. The label’s senior vice president of design, Andrew Comley said, “Less is more.” Though the collection was created with this in mind, it was not safe or boring. Comley redesigned argyle into a modern, graphic print for the DKNY girl. The print was utilized in a drop-waist frock and a jacquard coat. Navy and red-striped nautical numbers were playful and fun. The anchor motif appeared in tops, pants, and platforms. This contemporary collection caught my eye, and certainly Claire’s.
