Fall is my favorite season. Autumn is full of energy and life. But my favorite feature of fall is all the fashion. I love wearing comfy coats, warm scarves, though I hate to admit it, turtlenecks. Now that fall is in full swing (minus the occasional change in weather) I am taking full advantage of the October temperature. Here are some of my fall fashions. Enjoy!Sunday, October 24, 2010
Don't Forget Your Coat!

No More Winter Blues

Got the winter wardrobe blues? Don’t let winter be blah, dress it up with color, old favorites, and new styles. Try these simple outfits on for size and kick the winter blues to the curb.
Pop of Color. Ease into bright hues by just adding a pop of color to winter grays and blacks. A less is more approach to styling allows you to fashion a real focal point in the form of fun color. Wearing a bright-pick-me-up shade like the purple structured skirt with a drapey tank and boyfriend blazer looks put-together yet fun. Accessorize your look with patent pumps and slouchy bag. Wake up winter with color.
Try Shorts. Winter shorts may sound strange, but when you think about it, shorts and tights are just like wearing a skirt with tights. If you’re up for test-driving a new style try pairing shorts in a heavy–weight fabric, like wool with boots. Accessorize your shorts in the same way you do skirts and dresses. Try winter shorts and you will give a fresh new face to winter.
Be Bright. Sure black tights are practical, but replacing boring black with stockings in hot hues adds a kick of color to winter’s gray days. When picking your bright tights try enhancing a lesser color in your dress or skirt’s pattern, doing this will give your look depth. Don’t be afraid to play with color and brighten up winter.
Repurpose a Summer Favorite. Some of my favorite skirts and dresses are meant for summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them now. I recently paired a favorite J.Crew summer skirt with a black turtleneck and black tights. This easy combination has become my favorite winter outfit. You can take a spring or summer classic and repurpose it for your winter wardrobe.
Pretty Pastels. Winterize pastel hues by mixing them with heavier pieces like a leather jacket and thick tights. Balancing tough pieces with something soft gives a flirty approach to winter’s blah colors. The prettiness of pastels paired with the toughness of typical winter staples creates texture and balance to give winter some whimsy.

For Claire

We all have our little obsessions. For my friend Claire, the obsession comes in the form of an anchor. Claire loves anchors in all its forms, especially if that form is fashion. I don’t typically spot anchors among an array of apparel, but when I saw DKNY’s Pre-Fall 2010 ready-to-wear collection I couldn’t miss Claire’s favorite. Anchors, though prevalent, were not all that DKNY showed for Pre-Fall 2010. The collection focused heavily on American classics like a tweed blazer, a khaki trench coat, and a comfy-looking cardigan. The label’s senior vice president of design, Andrew Comley said, “Less is more.” Though the collection was created with this in mind, it was not safe or boring. Comley redesigned argyle into a modern, graphic print for the DKNY girl. The print was utilized in a drop-waist frock and a jacquard coat. Navy and red-striped nautical numbers were playful and fun. The anchor motif appeared in tops, pants, and platforms. This contemporary collection caught my eye, and certainly Claire’s.

One in the Same
Over the summer I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion exhibit. The exhibition featured models of the twentieth century in haute couture and read-to-wear pieces who inspired their photographers and epitomized their era. Peggy Moffit modeled a topless swimsuit that created a clamor throughout the nation during the early 1960’s. Designer of the suit, Rudy Gernreich said, “I really rattled the world.” Despite the uproar that the fashion world felt the suit sold and the photograph remains an icon.
Images for the anticipated Victoria’s Secret catalog were posted recently. As always the line didn’t disappoint in both wearable swimwear and too sexy suits, but I couldn’t help but think of Peggy Moffit’s photograph when viewing several pieces in the collection. Though time and a few details separate the photographs, one can’t help but recognize the resemblance of the two suits. Inspiration?

Fake Out
Today, as usual, I visited my favorite fashion websites to read the latest news and gossip flooding the fashion world. The updates seemed typical, offering the latest in advertising and editorial news until the title; "Marc and Lorenzo Finally Tie the Knot!" appeared on Fashionista.com. My jaw dropped and my heart filled with joy at the sight of the couple posing alongside a wedding cake. If you know anything about me, you know I love Marc Jacobs. From his fashion shows, to his handbags, and even his silly tattoos, I love it all. He has been my favorite designer for years, and though I am a college student without the funds to purchase his perfect designs, I still look at all the pretty clothes and dream. Throughout 2009, rumors of when and where Marc and Lorenzo whould actually wed were hot on the fashion news scene. Marc had hinted he planned on a December wedding in St. Barts but nothing had been confirmed. I continued reading the article, still elated with the news when I saw a very unfortunate word, "update." As it turns out the couple didn't mayy at all. My heart sank and I sighed a little at the news. Hopefully I will be reporting an actual marriage involving Marc Jacobs soon. In the meantime, I will wait impatiently for the joyous occasion to occur for real. Sunday, January 3, 2010
